Asus has introduced a new 12 inch laptop which will go on sale in Germany and Austria soon for 449 Euros or about $625 US. The Eee PC 1215P has a dual core 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and runs Windows 7 Professional.

Most Atom-powered mini-laptops ship with either Windows 7 Starter or premium features such as NVIDIA ION graphics to justify the more expensive Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional. The only thing I can see that really sets the Eee PC 1215P apart from any number of similar machines though is the fact that it ships with 2GB of DDR3 memory. In order to qualify for the cheaper Windows 7 Starter Edition, a notebook needs to ship with 1GB of RAM, although most can be upgraded to 2GB easily.

The Asus Eee PC 1215P also appears to be one of the first 12 inch notebooks with an Atom N550 CPU, for what it’s worth.

The notebook will have a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 802.11b/g/n WiFI, a 0.3MP camera, 10/100 Ethernet, 3 USB ports, a VGA port, mic and headphone jacks and a card reader. It will come with a 6 cell, 40Whr, 4400mAh battery and weigh about 3.2 pounds.

  1. The 1015PEM is a much better deal, unless you really need 12″ and/or demand nothing less than a 1366×768 screen.
