Unboxing the new iPod touch

The new 4th generation iPod touch is now shipping — and a friendly FedEx guy dropped one off at my house today. I haven’t had much time to kick the tires yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing how this new model with a speedy A4 processor and 960 x 640 pixel Retina display compares to my aging second generation iPod touch.

I shot a little unboxing video, which you can check out below, as well as some photos comparing the new model to its predecessor. The new iPod touch is definitely slimmer than the older model — but honestly, they’re both so incredibly thin that the difference is hard to detect.

There are a few changes that are readily apparent even before you turn the device on though. The 4th generation iPod touch screen is darker when it’s off, looking almost as black as the area around it. The front and rear-facing cameras are also visible, while the chromed edges are much less visible. When you look head-on at the new iPod touch you see almost nothing but screen.

Is ipod touch 4g slower than 2g? I read it a few minutes ago in twitter.Do you notice any difference?

I just got mine and there’s no dock adapter. I’m pretty disappointed.

About the price: I found it for 223$ (bit.ly/bhGETG) will it go lower sometime in the near future ? 223$ is still a bit high, should I buy the 3g for just 176$ ? there is no much difference anyway between the two iPods.

There’s actually a huge difference, because Apple never really made a third generation 8GB iPod touch. It basically has the same components as the 2nd generation iPod touch or the iPod 3G.

The new 4th generation 8GB model has the new A4 processor, the retina display, front and rear facing cameras, and runs iOS 4.1 much more smoothly than the 2G.

Yeah, I didn’t even notice that little piece of plastic was missing, because I don’t tend to use a dock. I wonder if the old version fits.

i will get mine next month
