The Archos 70 is a 7 inch Android tablet that’s expected to run about $275 when it goes on sale in October. It’s one of five new Android tablets Archos introduced recently, and it has almost all the same features found in the $300 Archos 101. The main difference is that it’s a little smaller and has a lower resolution display, but that means it’s also more portable and fits more comfortably in your hand.

The Archos 70 has a 1GHz ARM Cortex8 processor with support for 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics and 720p HD video playback. It has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel capacitive touchscreen display, while the Archos 101 has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel screen.

The tablet comes with 8G of internal flash storage or a 250GB hard drive. There’s also a micro SD card slot for extra storage.The Archos 70 includes 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and HDMI output. It has a built in microphone, kick stand, front-facing VGA camera, speakers, and a G-sensor.

The Archos 70 measures 7.91″ x 4.49″ x 0.43″ and weighs just 11 ounces if you get the version with flash storage. THe hard drive model is a little thicker at 0.55″ and weighs 14 ounces.

I personally find the 7 inch form factor to be a little better for reading eBooks, playing games, or performing most other activities than the 10 inch model. The on-screen keyboard is also a little easier to use since you can stretch your thumbs across the tablet in landscape mode on a 7 inch tablet. On the other hand, the Archos 101 does have a higher resolution display than the Archos 70, so if you want extra pixels you might have to spend the extra $25 to get a larger model… or look elsewhere for your Android tablet needs.

  2. so what is the build quality of Archos products such as the 7.0 and 10.1 Android tablets? I have never seen an Archos product so how does the build compare to the benchmark iPad?

    1. Well the iPad is 9+ inches and the Archos 10.1 inch tablet is 20% smaller, 30% lighter, thinner, had a kick stand and a much nicer form factor for one handed use. I’ve owned several Archos products. The build quality is not only excellent, the over molded extrusion process they are patenting makes the iPad look like a pathetic joke for ergonomics in my opinion… but then making an over sized phone instead of a real tablet will tend to make you look silly next to a company that has been producing larger touch screen devices for years and knows what works and what people really want.

    Not mention about ram.
    If have 256-512 should be ok for me, but if only have 128 , will be a mayor drawback

  4. I am just about convinced that this is the tablet for me. While I was initially attracted to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, it looks like a WIFI only tablet is not in sight. the Archos 70 would seem to satisfy my mobility needs. It has a screen large enough to read ebooks, do wordprocessing, watch movies, and cruise the Web comfortably. I don’t need 3G or 4G for phone calls. With Bluetooth, it allows me to hook up a foldable keyboard for worprocessing. In addition, it doesn’t have the heftiness and bulk of a 10″ tablet, which has dissuaded me from getting an iPad (although a 7″ iPad Jr might be a lure). Finally, the large storage option should provide enough space to store my music files and best 20 or so film files with lots of room to spare. Since the Marketplace issue has been already solved, I expect this will fit nicely into my mobile repertoire and needs. Need I say it? The price is right!

    1. The Market issue has not been solved yet. No one has tried getting the Android Market on the gen 8 tablets yet.

Shouldn’t be a problem, even if you have to load up .apks on an sd card and install them that way….plus the fact that it works on the older archos tabs means there’s a good chance the market will be on the new ones pretty quick, there is a really active archos community out there working on just that sort of thing….
