Stream TV eLocity tablet coming next month

You know that eLocity A7 tablet from Stream TV Networks that we spotted a earlier this month? Apparently it’s real… and it’s coming to Amazon net month, where you’ll be able to order the tablet for $399.

So what do you get for nearly $400? How about a 7 inch tablet with Android 2.2 and an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset for high quality graphics and HD video playback. It has an 800 x 480 pixel capacitive multitouch display, an accelerometer, and USB and HDMI ports. You can even hook it up to an external TV to display 1080p HD video.

Engadget’s Joanna Stern got a chance to check one out in person, and she came away mighty impressed. She says the $399 price tag will include a wireless keyboard and HDMI cable.

The only catch? At launch the tablet will ship with Android 2.1. Froyo won’t be available until October. Oh yeah, the only other catch? The tablet ships without Google’s Android Market, and instead comes with the third party GetJar app store.

You can find more photos, as well as a video at Engadget.

Finally some Cortex A9 based tablets are coming to market! Finally something with a processor you wouldn’t want in a SMARTPHONE is hitting the market!

I always wanted to see how the Tegra 2 would perform, hopefully someone somewhere will get their hands on one and get to do some comprehensive testing.

these tablets are going to be awful… smaller screen res than an iPad, shorter battery life, thicker form, RESISTIVE touch (yuk!). Sure they can do a few niche software things that some people will find useful but nothing much useful fits on a 800 x 480 screen.

I have a feeling in a year of so, there are going to be a lot of tablet manufacturers conceding sales weren’t great and purchasers weren’t thrilled – same as netbooks have been. $400 is not that much of a concession either. These have to $200 – $250 before purchasers will go “yeah I saved enough” to not whinge. At $400, it’s just a bad decision.

If you don’t want an iPad, buy a laptop. With decent specs instead of a no name tablet.

Is clearly says “800 x 480 pixel capacitive multitouch display”

But yeah 800×480 does suck on 7 inches.

Apple Apple Apple, I hate Apple as I have had nothing but bad issues with both hardware and customer service from Apple.
I love the android platform and shortly when these android tablet hit the market, make some adjustment they will bury the ipad just like the android phone is going to bury the iphone shortly.
I say great if apple no longer existed tomorrow it would not be soon enough for me.

In my opinion elocity wins by a long shot in direct competition with iPad. It has features that iPad doesn’t and it won’t cost you a leg, not like an iPad.
