Dell and AT&T have finally gotten around to announcing launch details for the Dell Streak 5 inch Android Tablet. And as expected, it’s going to run $549.99 without a contract or $299.99 if you sign up for a 2 year 3G service plan with AT&T.
Honestly, the unsubsidized $550 price isn’t all that unusual for a state of the art smartphone. An iPhone 4, for instance, runs about $600 without a contract.
But that $300 price tag for the subsidized version seems a bit high.
If you’re looking to save a few bucks, and you already registered for the pre-sale event, you can visit dell.com/mobile on Thursday, August 12th to order the phone/tablet, get free second-day shipping, and snag a coupon for a $0.99 Plantronics Bluetooth headset.
General availability will start Friday, August 12th.
The Dell Streak tablet features a 5 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 5MP camera and 3G modem. It also comes with a 2GB microSD card for storage.
The tablet ships with Google Android 1.6, but an update should be available soon which will bring the device up to Android 2.2 with support for Adobe Flash.
Dell will also offer a car dock kit for $39.99 and a $69.99 home audio/video dock.
