Toshiba launches CM1 Classmate PC in Japan

Toshiba is the latest netbook maker to jump into the educational market with the launch of convertible tablet aimed at students in Japan. The Toshiba CM1 is based on the latest Intel Classmate PC reference design, and looks an awful lot like the CTL 2Go PC convertible tablet I reviewed earlier this year.

The netbook has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It runs Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. The Toshiba CM1 also has a built-in handle and the screen rotates down over the display for use in tablet mode.

The case is ruggedized to stand up against abuse from students. The CM1 is a bit heavy for a netbook though, weighing in at 3.97 pounds.

It looks very nice. Being heavy for a netbook could help build muscle in users? :)
