Skype is launching a promotion today that allows users to make free calls to telephone numbers from a PC or mobile device running Skype software. If you’re in the US you get the best deal, since you can make unlimited free calls to US landline and mobile numbers for a month. But the promotion isn’t just limited to US phone numbers.
You can also make free calls to landlines in a number of other countries including Argentina, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Countries including Brazil, Algeria, Nigeria and South Africa get between 60 and 400 free minutes over the course of the month.
The deal isn’t good for every country, but it’s still one of the best deals I’ve seen in a while. If you’re already a Skype user, odds are you can save a few bucks if you make calls this month — although I suspect Skype is really hoping to attract new customers.
The promotion is timed to coincide with the World Cup, so you can call your friends and family members and console each other over that latest loss… or you know, the opposite.
