HP revives the HP Mini 110 netbook (in name only)

HP pretty much retired the HP Mini 110 netbook earlier this year after introducing the HP Mini 210. The new model has a streamlined case design with a 6-cell battery that sits flush with the base of the laptop and an Intel Atom Pine Trail processor, while the HP Mini 110 had a bulky battery and a first generation Atom CPU. But if you look at the HP web site today, you’ll notice the HP Mini 110 is back — even though it seems to look a lot more like the 210 series than the original HP Mini 110.

The new HP Mini 110 has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel matte display and either a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 or 1.83GHz Intel Atom N475 single core processor. The laptop ships with 1GB of DDR2 memory and either a 160GB or 250GB hard drive. 802.11b/g/n WiFi comes standard, while Bluetooth and 3G options are available. You can choose between Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter. And a 6 cell battery comes standard.

Prices for the new model start at $280. Interestingly, the only versions of the HP Mini 210 left on the HP shopping web site are the HP Mini 210 HD version (with a high resolution display) and the HP Mini 210 Vivienne Tam Edition, with a designer case.

Small and light to carry around. Decent speed using XP operating system. Excellent keyboard layout. Excellent audio. No excessive heat observed when used for prolonged hours.
