Dynamism to bring the Viliv N5 handheld to the US… soon

The Viliv N5 is a teeny tiny laptop (or an average sized MID) that we first spotted at CES in January. Now it looks like the mobile device should be available in the US relatively soon.

The Viliv N5 is a little small for comfortable touch-typing, but this little mobile internet device has a 4.8 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and a QWERTY keyboard, as well as netbook-like specs, including:

CPU: 1.3GHz Intel Atom Z520
Memory: 1GB
Storage: 32GB SSD
OS: Windows 7
I/O: 1 USB ports, microSD card slot, headphone jack, built-in mic and speakers
Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n Wifi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, optional 3G modem
Battery: Estimated 6 hours of run time
Dimensions: 6.8″ x 3.4″ x 1″
Weight: 0.85 pounds

Dynamism will be launching the N5 in the US soon. There’s still no word on the ship date or the pricing, but you can sign up to get more information when it’s available at Dynamism.

It reminds me of a Psion but with a better screen or similar to the IBM PC110 but even smaller. It looks really appealing. I hope it is price low enough to make it worth purchasing.

This looks very attractive, but I have one major complaint (at least, not knowing the price or the chance to handle it, I have only one ): it's small enough to hold like a portable GPS / slightly larger iPhone, etc, and even has a touch screen … but it doesn't go the extra fraction of an arc that it would take for the keyboard to be fully folded behind the display. I like that it has a keyboard, even if I wince imagining touch-typing on that. I just wish it could fold completely flat, into a less awkward shape for using — as their ad copy suggests — as an in-car GPS display, or for sketching w/ the stylus, etc.

Ah, yes…two of my favorites from yesteryear, the Psion 5mx and the IBM PC110. I have been using an HP200LX for 16 years now, and this is the device that will replace it. I had an OQO 02, but sold it when the company went under. I've been missing having a go-anywhere pocketable device since then, and this is IT. I just wish it had a 64GB SSD…
