Asus Eee PC 1215N sports Atom D525 CPU

We’ve known for a while that the Asus Eee PC 1215N was coming, adding another ION-powered netbook to Asus’ offerings. However, just a month ago it looked like the 1215N was going to include Intel’s Atom D510 or D550 under the hood. Now it looks as though processing duties will actually be handled by the dual-core, 1.8GHz Atom D525.

The 1215N’s other hardware includes:

  • Nvidia ION 2 with Optimus technology
  • 2GB DDR3 memory
  • 320GB SATA  HDD
  • 12.1 ” 1366 x 768 LED display
  • 802.11b/g/n wireless
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • 2 USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Sleep’n'Charge
  • HDMI and VGA output
  • SD/SDHC/MMC card reader
  • 1.3 megapixel webcam
  • 6-cell lithium ion battery
  • Windows 7 Home Premium

Engadget mentioned that it to be the “netbook powerhouse” which is cool. Now the real question stands that are manufacturers closing the space between laptops and netbooks.

Also correct me if I am wrong, the system is supposed to have 1GB DDR3 RAM instead of the 2GB RAM that you mentioned.

I would like to see it compared to the last gen Acer 1810 and ASUS UL20 series of CULV laptops. If these units can get more than 6 hours of use out of the battery and perform on par with the older CULVs, this may be the netbook to get because it has two distinct advantages over the older designs: USB 3.0 and nVidia graphics. That is if they don't price it out of reach.

Someone tell me that this laptop has a chipset with more than 1x PCI-E lanes for the GPU. Apparently that really kills ION 2 performance. Intel sucks.
