$200 tablet dual boots Android and Windows CE

  • Email

In the market for a cheap tablet, but don’t want to limit yourself to one that only runs Google Android or Windows CE? Witstech has you covered with a new 7 inch touchscreen device that dual boots Windows CE 6.0 and Google Android 2.1.

The Witstech A81-E tablet has an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8-based processor, 256MB of RAM, and 2GB of flash storage. The screen is an 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, and the tablet includes 802.1b/g WiFi and support for MPEG2, MPEG4, and H.264 video playback.

Because the A81-E runs both Google Android and Windows CE, you get the benefits of each operating system. That includes Office Mobile for accessing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the go, and Google Android apps including Google Maps and Android’s Webkit-based web browser.

The tablet measures 7.1″ x 4.3″ x 0.6″ and comes with a 3000mAh battery. It’s available from MeriMobiles for $199.99.

holy… $199 for a 7″ cortex-A8?! There got to be some kind of catch here.

It would be interesting to see a review of this. For the price, it kind of doesn't matter if it's a little crappy, it could be nice as a hobby/prototyping thing. My favorite listed feature:
“Integrated constancy in the new-fangled invention of Windows-CE6.0 embedded”

    Is there multitouch?

We should be getting a review unit in the next week or so…

The improved SOC, extra RAM, and later version of Android should be a big improvement, especially at that price. We've heard from other Shanzhai players that they would be moving to Android 2.1 in July as well, but I'm surprised its this quick, and the hardware improvement at that price point is pretty damned aggressive as well.

$199 is a good price. I think it would do well for what it is designed for. It sounds very appelling.

The system **CAN** dual boot. It does **NOT** come with WindowsCE. You **CAN** install it on a MicroSD card and dual boot that way.
