Netbook + USB Duet = Incredibly awkward iPad keyboard

  • Email

Say you’ve got a netbook and an iPad… and you don’t want to lug around an external keyboard for typing on the iPad. Enter the PLX Technology USB Duet, which you can use to essentially turn your netbook into an overpriced, power-hungry iPad keyboard. As an added bonus, it will let you transfer photos from your netbook to your iPad.

The USB Duet is designed to let you copy and sync files between two computers. But if you use the iPad Camera Connection Kit, you can plug in the Duet cable and connect the other end to your netbook to link the two portable devices.

Honestly, I can’t think of any reason you would want to do this instead of using an Apple keyboard or a third party solution for the iPad. But it’s still pretty darn cool.

One caveat: The USB Duet uses a mini-USB port, which is something that most netbooks don’t actually have. In order to demonstrate the trick, PLX Technology brought a Japanese Fujitsu laptop to the Netbook Summit in San Francisco this week.

This is an awesomest awesome idea so that we can feel that we are using iPad but in reality we are using netbook. Mostly people likes to use iPad and also like the features of it.

I realize the iPad may have taking off to a great start and Apple want's everyone to believe it's the next best thing in technology. However after the initial crave you have not heard much from the consumers who have purchased this device and I believe they sit back and question themselves as to “why did I buy a big freaking iPod touch?” Netbooks are here to stay and I believe that with the bad economy Netbooks offer every consumer to have a computing experience and Apple should have taking notice as well that's why the entertainment industry is slowly moving away from Apple or Mac whichever you prefer.

If one has to use a netbook to use a keyboard with the iPAD, why not just get a convertible netbook with a touch screen? It is probably cheaper than buying two devices; especially if one has to order a netbook with a mini USB port.
