Intel to introduce chips “dedicated” for tablets at Computex

We already knew that Intel is bringing out new chips for netbooks, smartphones, and ultrathin laptops. Now it looks like the company may have a dedicated solution for tablets as well.

Speaking at an investors conference this morning, Intel VP Mooly Eden suggested that the ULV chips destined for ultrathin laptops run too hot to make sense in super-thin tablets. Instead, he says Intel will showcase “dedicated architecture” for tablets a the Computex trade show in Taiwan next month.

It’s possible that he’s talking about a variation of the Moorestown chips that Intel is already prepping for smartphones. But it’s good to know that Intel is thinking about the tablet space… just like every other PC and component maker on the planet. Of course, we already kind of knew that, didn’t we?

I think you are correct it could well be a variation of the Moorestown chips.

Moorestown CPU would be a variant of the Atom processors for the smartphones. So it could be another variant with another name I presume for tablets.

The power consumption must be low and the weight must be light as well.
