Dell Inspiron 11z gets a new touchpad

The Dell Inspiron 11z is a thin and light notebook with a 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, an Intel CULV processor, and a nice wide keyboard. My only real complaint with this netbook is that it has one of the worst touchpads I’ve ever used.

I’m not a fan of touchpads with integrated left and right buttons — since the cursor often jumps when you’re trying to tap, and dragging and dropping is a bit of a chore when you have to hold down the touchpad while sliding your finger across the same surface.

Now some folks in are reporting that Dell has started shipping the Inspiron Mini 11z with a new touchpad that has two distinct buttons below the touchpad.

According to MyDellMini forum member brookheather, the buttons feel kind of cheap, but it’s still much easier to right click and click and dag on the new touchpad. That particular laptop shipped in the UK, but if you look at the Dell Inspiron 11z web site for the US, you’ll see that the photos have been updated to show a notebook with left and right buttons below the touchpad.

Thank you Dell. Your TnL laptop might almost be worth purchasing now.

This form factor is poised to be the breakthrough product for the coming holiday season and beyond. However, doesn't seem like Dell did it justice with the Atom processor and a weak trackpad (that's why we don't plug mice into these devices anymore)

i actually thought the old touchpad was okay. i sent my 11z to dell to get the screen fixed and when i got it back it had the new pad and i had to reinstall synaptics. the buttons are okay, but the thing that drives me CRAZY is the difference between the vertical and horizontal movement. moving up and down is too slow whereas moving side to side is too fast. i didnt have this problem with the old pad.

I had the second edition touchpad, everytime I put my finger on it blue screen of death and then shut down. So I installed the first edition touch pad myself works ok now. I rather use a usb wireless mini mouse anyhow
