Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet with Android 2.1, Adobe Flash

Apple may or may not eventually succeed in pushing the world toward a future where Adobe Flash isn’t the most popular format for web video and casual web-based video games like Farmville. But we don’t live in Apple’s world just yet, and while a number of companies have developed apps that will stream live video to the iPad sans Flash, a web browser without Flash still feels a bit crippled in the multimedia department. And that’s why I get a little excited every time I hear about a Google android tablet on the horizon with Flash support.

The latest is the Cruz tablet from Velocity Micro. The Cruz will reportedly be a 7 inch tablet with an 800MHz ARM-based processor. It will run Google android 2.1 and support Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Of course, by the time it’s released later this summer, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for Android might be widely available for other tablets and smartphones as well. Bu tyou know, Velocity Micro went through the trouble of putting it in the promotional materials.

Engadget reports that the tablet will come in two flavors, one with a 16:9 aspect ratio display and another with a 4:3 screen. Each should cost around $300 or less. You can check out some hands-on photos of the tablet at Engadget.

that price point sounds like a rockchip to me. Still, that dock looks interesting, if it have video/vga/dvi out and usb in.

Why are the other companies introducing 7 inchers? 10 inch is the ideal size and that is why the iPad is a big seller.

I hope to other companies come out with a good Android 2.1 10 incher.

Not everyone wants a 10″ tablet. I for one am very interested to see how well this one works. It sounds a lot like the machine I am looking for.

By the way, I understand Ning is circling the drain. Any plans for a replacement?

Software 1st, hardware 2nd. Until Android's marketplace catches up with iTunes, the iPad will dominate.

I like the 7″ size of this thing. I think it makes a tablet much more portable and able to possible be a big phone. For me something around 5″ to 7″ seems like a great all purpose ultra mobile device.

What I'm really waiting for is something with the newer screens that are a combination of e-book reader and LCD. Maybe even one of the plastic type that won't break when you toss it into a backpack or briefcase. I hear the HP Slate may possible be a plastic LCD.

One thing we can give Apple credit for though, is hyping up the “tablet” market and now we'll all have tons of choices.

Price is $199 for the CruzReader and $299 for the CruzTablet. They're both the same hardware, pretty much, with the Tablet having a 2MP web cam, included charge dock and multitasking ability. Reactions. http://j.mp/velocity-micro-cruz-impressions
