Sharp updates Netwalker, drops the keyboard

If a netbook is what you get when you shrink a laptop, the Sharp Netwalker PC-Z1 is what you get when you miniaturize a netbook. But what do you get when you take a Sharp Netwalker and lose the keyboard altogether? Apparently a Sharp Netwalker PC-T1.

Sharp’s latest Netwalker features the same 5 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display as its keyboard-toting sibling. But this model comes sans keyboard, and relies on the stylus and resistive touchscreen for input.

The PC-T1 has a Freescale i.MX515 ARM-based CPU, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, and 8GB of storage space, plus a microSD card slot for additional storage. It has audio, USB, and Mini USB ports, and comes with Ubuntu 9.04 Linux preloaded.

The Sharp NetWalker PC-T1 will be available in Japan in May for 47,000 yen, or about $510 US. No word on an international launch, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this little guy show up at Dynamism and other sites that specialize in making Japanese gadgets available worldwide.

I am very thankful to you for this listing.I think Sharp will eventually give it a faster processor and an upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 or whatever is newer at the time. style of the 1st generation netwalker is still my favourite…
