NEC LaVie Light netbook gets WiMAX, faster processor

NEC is showing off an updated version of its LaVie Light netbook. The new model looks a lot like earlier netbooks from the company, but it has a faster processor, additional RAM and hard drive space and a couple of other new features including built in WiMAX mobile broadband support and a high capacity SDXC flash card slot.

Akihabara News reports that the LaVie Light is now available with a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N470 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. While there’s no mention of the operating system, I’m guessing this means it also comes with Windows 7 Home Premium, since Microsoft prohibits netbook vendors from installing Windows 7 Starter Edition on machines with more than 1GB of RAM or hard drives larger than 250GB.

The new NEC LaVie Light will sell for 70,000 yen in Japan. That’s about $761 US, although I don’t expect it to hit US shores anytime soon.
