Netbook Navigator Nav 9 tablet to ship soon for $599 and up

The folks at Netbook Navigator have dropped the base price of their 9 inch touchscreen tablet. Now you can place an order for the Nav 9 for as little as $599. That’s still a good $100 more thna you’ll pay for the cheapest version of Apple’s iPad, but here’s what you get with the Nav 9:

  • Display: 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel, multitouch
  • CPU: 1.66GHz Intel Atom N270
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Storage: 16GB solid state disk (with support for up to 128GB)
  • Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, 3 USB ports, 1 SD card slot, 1 SIM card slot and optional 3G
  • Battery: 3 cell, 2200mAh
  • Dimensions: 10″ x 6.6″ x 0.8″
  • Weight: 2.0″

I got a note from the Netbook Navigator folks this weekend letting me know that the first batch of the tablets had some problems with the multitouch panel — but that the manufacturer is building a new batch with more responsive screens. I should be getting a review unit soon, so I’ll have more details to share with you then. In the meantime, you can check out a few new pictures of the Nav 9 tablet after the break.

$599? Really? Seriously what is the real price? It is a netbook without the keyboard and a puny battery.

    1024 x 600?
They should give up, cut their losses.

Incidentally, all netbooks should start offering the iPad screen resolution – much better for browsing the web… the way it used to be.

Here is what is has that netbooks don’t have: a Multi-Touch LCD, a Solid State Hard Drive and a built-in 3G modem with integrated SIM card slot.

Here is what it has that the iPad doesn’t have: 3 USB ports, an SD card slot, VGA output, LAN input and a front-facing webcam… to name a few.

Can you name any other keyless tablet device that looks this nice for under $599?

for every un educated person out there that wants to bash this product here are a few things to consider, atleast from a nav 9 vs ipad:

-nav 9 has multitasking: twitter/pandora + word processing. ipad does not!
-nav 9 does not have an app dependent os, you can install any program you want making it more useable.

for all the people who think theyd rather have a netbook:
you sit down on a bus or youre walking around. you pull out a screen[the nav 9] power it up and start hammering out that essay thats due. you simply cannot do that with a net book as easily, someone please post a video of a person walking and working on an essay on a netbook.

    sincerely.
