The OpenTablet 7 from OpenPeak is a touchscreen tablet with a 7 inch display. You could probably have figured that out from the name. Here’s what the name doesn’t tell you: It features 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and 3G mobile broadband connectivity. It’s powered by an Intel Moorestown CPU, and can serve double duty as a phone and wireless media/web tablet.
The user interface is powered by Flash. So it sounds like the tablet might actually be able to handle Flash video from the web, something that most tablets and smartphones on the market today can’t do. But OpenPeak is really promoting the Flash basis for the OpenTablet because it means that third party developers will be able to write applications for the tablet using Adobe Flash CS4. That’s pretty much it for the “open” end of things. The software and hardware don’t appear to be open source, per se.
No word on pricing or a launch date yet.
