All the better. My first thought upon reading your comment was "convergence", for the (common for me) situation where a smartphone isn't enough and dragging out the laptop is too much. RDP from my old HTC PPC6800 is barely usable (read: PITA), but this device might just have enough screen real estate to be able to do more tasks without resorting to the clunker laptop.

Don't forget, Maemo/MeeGo is NOT a smartphone OS! No more than a Windows netbook or slate running VOIP software is as well. MeeGo is a mobile computung OS, and this is a pocketable workstation class device with phone radios. So don't feel guilty.

Comparing this to anything running Android is short sighted. Both share common features, but MeeGo's robust framework support give it far more legs. Its like comparing the Droid to the N900. Once you use an N900 you get it. The N900 is just a Linux computer with a phonecall app.

You know, this might compete with the Dell Mini 5. This unit looks a little clunky for a phone, but it might work. If it has Bluetooth with PAN support, it might function well as a tethered 3G modem. Thanks for mentioning it, certainly it warrants looking into, even if it is LG...
