The difference between the Asus Eee PC 1005P and 1005PE

I’ve been wondering what makes the Eee PC 1005PE different from the 1005P for a little while. Today I found out: The keyboard and battery.

Basically, both models are available with the same configuration options including 1GB of RAM, 160GB/250GB/320GB hard drives, Windows 7 Starter, and Intel Atom N450 processors. But there are a few minor differences.

First, the Eee PC 1005PE comes with either a 63Whr or a 48Whr battery, while the 1005P is only available with the lower capacity battery. That’s not necessarily that big a deal, since Asus claims you can get 11 hours of battery life from the 48Whr battery. That probably translates to around 8 hours in real-world conditions.

Second, the Eee PC 1005PE has a chiclet-style keyboard, while the 1005P has a keyboard with flat keys, but without the same kind of gaps between the keys.

Finally, the Asus Eee PC 1005PE is already available in the US for around $380, while the 1005P may or may not be offered in this market.

More pictures after the break.

You said that 1005PE has chiclet keyboard but the picture you posted of the 1005PE does not shows a chiclet keyboard. Which one is correct?

Sorry, I labaled the photo wrong. That's actually the 1005p.

The P has a matte display, the PE has the Color Shine glossy display.
    The P has 802.11 b/g, the PE has b/g/n

There may also be bluetooth with the PE.

Hi, I have asus 1005P with ubuntu lucid installed and the indicator applet is only giving me 6 hours 50 minutes max battery life. do u think this is normal? coz i just got my netbook. i read that it can run up to 8hrs in real world condition. how come mine is only running at 6hours with wifi and blluetooth on? im just using it to play vlc movies and web surfing.
