Mobile Tech bloggers for Haiti

A group of mobile tech bloggers are coming together to support relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Xavier Lanier of Notebooks.com and GottaBeMobile is spearheading the effort and he’s agreed to put $500 of his own money to match donations to the Red Cross from the community. Basically, all you have to do is leave a comment letting him know that you’ve donated $10, and he’ll match your donation.

Since starting the effort yesterday, members for the mobile tech community including Gear Diary, Mobility Minded, Gear Live, Technologizer, Ivy Worldwide, Windows Phone Thoughts, Thoughts Media, Geeksroom, Served Raw, SlashGear and SCOTTEVEST have chipped in, bringing the fund to more than $5000.

If Xavier had caught me a little earlier in the day, I probably would have chipped in as well, but my wife and I had just donated $300 each to Doctors Without Borders and Partners in Health, two organizations that had already been on the ground in Haiti long before the earthquake. Both of these groups are providing relief assistance, and we’re confident that they’ll continue to do good work in Haiti throughout the crisis and for many years to come.

If you’ve got a few bucks to spare and you’re trying to decide whether to save up for a new computer or help those in need, please consider making at least a small donation. Every dollar helps and no donation is too small. You can either reach out through the Notebooks.com matching program or find another charity that you support. CBS has compiled a great list of charities doing relief work in Haiti.
