Gateway’s latest thin and light has a DVD drive

Gateway has introduced one of the first 11.6 inch thin and light notebooks I’ve seen that has both an Intel CULV processor and a DVD burner. The Gateway EC14D features a dual core Intel Pentium SU4100 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. It packs an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display. And it has an 8X Super Multi DVD drive.

The computer runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, supports multitouch gestures on the touchpad, and has an HDMI port (and GMA 4500MHD graphics). With a 6 cell, 5600mAh battery the EC14D weighs about 3.5 pounds and measures 11.5″ x 8.3″ x 1.2″.

Overall, the laptop looks a lot like the Acer Aspire 1810TZ, (Acer owns the Gateway brand). The primary difference is that the 1810TZ doesn’t have a disc drive. The Acer version is also significantly cheaper, at about $550. The Gateway EC14D will start at about $630.

According to the Gateway site, it lacks bluetooth. Otherwise it's pretty amazing, especially pricewise: 4Gb of memory and DVD. Puts some prize pressure to lesser machines, hopefully :D Acer 1810TZ is still hard to beat.
