I turned off my cellphone the minute we stepped on the plane. I didn't feel
like paying international roaming charges, and because I'd prefer not to pay
$30/month for a data plan, I don't have a smartphone anyway. I just use a
candybar-style phone with no internet access and carry a netbook or laptop
and my aging PDA with me.

I had a similar old PDA an FSC Loox 720 which is good at hardware (VGA display, USB host, etc.) but old at OS and no mobilenet possibility. Maybe an Android port to this old machines will be fun

It has a slightly larger display, which I actually like (1366 x 768 pixels
is awfully sharp, even on an 11.6 inch display), and I prefer the Asus
keyboard and touchpad. But that's just a personal preference. Spec-wise,
these two computers are pretty similar.

With the Amazon $75 gift card promotion, the UL20A is a little cheaper than
the 1810T right now though.

How does the Asus compare to the Acer 1810T on Engadget's list. I want a smaller laptop. At least I think I do.

Welcome back, Brad. I'll bet your vacation filled you with new zeal and energy .

Nice that you took your Axim along. I still use my WM5 iPaq and have lots of fond feelings about it… but I have to admit that my wife persuaded me to switch to a converged device, an iPhone 3Gs, and I haven't looked back. In many ways it leaves the iPaq in the dust.

Sorry to inform people that the US UL20A is a conjob. The UL20A in Asia has a better battery and bluetooth.
