Asus Eee PC 1201T with AMD processor, ATI graphics gets official

  • Email

Last month Asus showed off a previously unannounced variation of the Asus Eee PC 1201 at a trade show in China. Now the company has created an English language web site for the Eee PC 1201T. There’s no word on a price or launch date yet, but here’s what we do know: This will be the first Asus Eee PC model to feature and AMD processor and ATI Radeon graphics.

The Eee PC 1201T has the same basic shape and design as the recently launched Eee PC 1201N. But instead of NVIDIA ION graphics and an Intel Atom processor, the Eee PC 1201T has a 1.6GHz AMD Congo MV40 processor and ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics. That should give the laptop enough oomph to handle 1080p HD video playback.

Here’s a rundown of the rest of the specs:

  • Display: 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel screen
  • CPU: 1.6GHz AMD Congo MV40 w/RS780MN chipset
  • Memory: 2GB
  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Storage: 250GB hard drive + 500GB online storage
  • Wireless connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFi + optional Bluetooth 2.1
  • I/O: 3 USB, audio, headphone, VGA, SDHC card slot, Ethernet
  • Webcam: 0.3MP
  • Battery: 6 cell, 47Whr, 6 hours battery life
  • Dimensions: 11.7″ x 8.2″ 1.3″
  • Weight: 3.2 pounds
  • Colors: black, silver, red

No HDMI out? Shame on ASUS.

I hope they have a better plan for the heat. The last computer with the AMD Congo processor that I saw was so hot you could toast something over it…

  • BoJack

I can attest to that. I bought the DV2 and DM3, had to return both.

It is probably not just the heat. AMD processors are also not known for being power efficient. So just don't expect this machine to have a good battery life.

No way it can do 6 hours. What bullshit. I think it can do no more than 3 hours. If the 1201N can give only 3.5 hours, how the hell an AMD can give better than that?

  • ruudboek

That amd congo is a 45 nm, the older neo was 65 nm, so there are indications that this congo cpu will run cooler and more power efficient.

  • ninetynine

I agree, it's 3 hours on moderately heavy usage. The MSI U230 is a netbook based on the Congo platform (with a newer processor actually) and it manages just over 3 hours of battery life in 480p video loop test. If the article is correct, and this Asus comes with the AMD MV-40, that's a 65nm architecture.

  • mlabrow

Confusingly the old and new processors all share the same processor name. The only difference is the x2. This should be a Neo Dual Core, and thus 45nm, the same as the MSI U230 which is listed as a MV40 x2 as well.

  • michael

today's world, people are looking nothing less than 6 hours. My UL20A gives me well over 8 hours even.

Asus is just contradicting themselves by coming out with confusingly so many lookalike machines.

shame theres no hdmi i like asus and would have bought this model had it included an hdmi port, with no hdmi i will probably by the msi u230 that will have the same chip/graphics but will include an hdmi port

  • lnm

Can you provide a source for the claim that these are 45nm chips? I haven't seen 45nm neos anywhere, but I haven't been paying that close attention. Thanks.

no hdmi and lower mp cam – not good!

  • estradam#7

i videochat a lot, so higher resolution cam is very impt. will wait for one that gives better cam in the 12″ category.
