Rumor: Verizon to offer Sony Vaio P for $300 with contract

Sprint may not be the only US wireless carrier to add a low cost mini-laptop to its 3G lineup this week. Phone Arena is reporting that Verizon may soon begin offering the Sony Vaio P. What’s more exciting is that the mini-laptop could be available for as little as $299.99 when you sign up for a long term wireless broadband contract. While that would make the Sony Vaio P one of the most expensive mini-laptops to be subsidized by the wireless industry, it would be competitive with the Nokia Booklet 3G. More importantly, it would knock  about $500 off the list price of the Vaio P without a subsidy.

The model that Verizon is rumored to carry will have an 8 inch, 1600 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drive and it will run Windows 7 Home Premium. There’s no word on the processor, but the Sony Vaio P line typically uses the Atom Z5xx series.

There’s no word on a release date, or if this is even real. But Phone Arena does have a screengrab of what appears to be the Sony Vaio P on the Verizon wireless order page. If the computer was available previously, it’s been pulled down now. But Phone Arena reports that Verizon may have more details later this week.

[Slow sarcastic clap] Well, Sony figured out how to sell their overpriced net device or even more! Now it costs 3x as much! Yippy! I mean you have to hand it to them, the Vaio P sold very well from what I have heard, and now it is likley going to get another sales bump. Clap clap clap.
