To be honest, ubuntu is unusable for several eeePCs.
I only had problems, from the start.
First of all, the graficscard wasn't supported at all (gma500, I know, the problem is on the side of Intel and not on Ubuntus side)
The eeepc Utilities werde broken.
I had to use pakages of Ubuntu 8.
After this, it worked at least.
Wifi didn't Work at all, or worked only 1 to 2 Minutes.
I couldn't even find out why.
No body could help me.
So, from my point of view Ubuntu is a really problematik distribution

running opensuse 11.2 on my lenovo S10e.

install was easy.
hardware setup was either no-problem or easy.
performance is great.

i'd thoroughly recommend it.

Don't forget about alternative, lighter distributions, e.g. xPUD or Puppy Linux.
