Embryo VIA C7-M powered netbook spotted in the wild

VIA has always had a stronger position in the Asian market than elsewhere around the globe. They may be starting to make greater inroads in the netbook world, as we saw the other day with the arrival of Phecda’s aggressively priced PHV102.

NetbookNews.de [translate link] reports the sighting of another new VIA-powered machine, a 10.2″ model from Embryo.

I’ve got some concerns about the unit, based on what we can see in the video (check it out after the jump). First, there’s the awkward placement of the charging tip – right in the middle of the unit’s right-hand side. Now, this might not be a major problem since our netbooks are supposed to be for portable use after all – but I still like my cords hanging out in more logical locations. Second, the plastic shell has a decidedly brittle look and makes me think that it would be prone to scratches.

The trade-off, of course, is that the Embryo will probably be dirt cheap. Honestly, if I can pick up a secondary machine for about $180, I’ll be willing to make some sacrifices when it comes to build quality.
