Sony Vaio P overclocked to run at 2.4GHz

The Sony Vaio P mini-laptop is available with Intel Atom processors with clock speeds ranging from 1.33GHz to 1.86GHz. But like pretty much any Intel Atom CPU, th echips in the Vaio P lnd themselves to overclocking. And EeeUser forum member Cerano says he managed to overclock his Vaio P with a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor to run at 2.4GHz.

He says the temperature remained between 49 and 60 degrees Celsius without any modifications.  He’s thinking about picking up a laptop cooler and shooting for 2.5GHz next.

You can check out some benchmarks for the overclocked device at the EeeUser Forum. Here’s a spoiler: The Sony Vaio P runs faster when you overclock the processor.

Update: If you want a faster Sony Vaio P and don’t feel like overclocking, don’t worry. Faster models are on their way. Sony UK is showing several new models with 2GHz Intel Atom Z550 processors. Of course, if you overclocked those puppies, maybe you could push 2.6GHz…
