Lenovo announces plans to announce the Lenovo IdeaPad U150

u150

The Lenovo IdeaPad U150 is a thin and light laptop with an Intel CULV dual core SU2300 processor. It’s already available in Japan, but Lenovo hasn’t given it a proper global launch yet. Now according to the Lenovo Twitter feed, the company will introduce the 11.6 inch laptop during a webcast event on Monday.

The laptop will join an already-crowded field of 11.6 inch laptops with low power, moderate performance processors, extended battery life and Windows 7 Home Premium, including laptops from Acer, Asus, Dell, and Toshiba.

The U150 is now on the US website with specs & pictures of black & red versions (but not yet for purchase).

From http://www.lenovo.com, select by hovering over the menus:
    Home>Products>Laptops & netbooks>IdeaPad laptops>U series

Check out the COMPARE and GALLERY tabs.

According to the Compare page, the U150 has a dot next to dedicated graphics. Could this be the first ultra portable with CULV to have a decent graphics card?

You are right. Lenovo typically has many configurations for each “model” with improvements released over time. Besides various processors, memory, etc, the U450P & U550 both have “ATI Radeon HD4330 512MB” graphics in their high-end (CULV Dual-Core Core™ 2 Duo SU7300 Processor) config.

So they clearly plan to release something like this, but given their track record, it may not be Monday. Also note that Amazon/Buy/Newegg/etc may have slightly different model #'s and configurations than the Lenovo website.

The ATI Radeon HD4330 is a relatively low-end choice used in some Dell, HP & MSI notebooks. A review of sorts:

A review of an HP Notebook states:
“The 4330 graphics provide enough power for watching HD content, editing video, and even playing some games, but this system isn't designed to handle complex 3D rendering jobs”

That sounds great for my needs for a travel computer. I'm waiting . . .

Damn. I know Lenovo usually uses AMD cards but the 4330 sounds like bad news. I know it's probably better than the 4500MHD that Intel offers but it seems a bit weaker than say a 9400m or the current 210m that's in the Asus UL80vt. Perhaps I am expecting too much from an ultra portable.
