How to build a netbook stand from $8 in IKEA parts

ikea stand

Looking for a laptop stand that works with a 7 to 10 inch laptop? Odds are you’re going to have to build one yourself, since most stands are designed for larger notebooks.  But you don’t have to spend a lot of money to do it. Kathleen Henri has posted a tutorial at Instructables for building a netbook stand that’s perfect for a smaller netbook from a handful of parts you can pick up at IKEA.

In a nutshell, all you need are two IKEA shelf brackets, a drawer handle to hold them together, and some vinyl cabinet brackets to keep the laptop from sliding. You’ll also need a drill, screwdriver, and hammer, but I’m going to go out on a limb and predict you’ve already got those lying around.

The finished product is a surprisingly stylish looking laptop stand that costs just about $8 to build.

Hey Kids! I bet, if you're anything like me*, you want to tilt your netbook at a 45 degree angle to make it nearly useless for typing, right?

Well here's $8.99 well spent to make sure your carpal tunnel syndrome extends fully up to your scapulas turning your coracoid process into a knot of calcium deposits and ruined ligaments.

    Enjoy!

Don't know if I would have put it quite that way, but you do have a point.

In the DIY spirit I'd take a saw and cut down the rear legs of the stand to make it the angle that you find most ergonomic.

It looks nice and easy to do. I like it. :)

Take a paperback and keep it under the netbook. Save $8

Because there are blogs, we talk. Next we'll be talking about how to keep our toothbrush when we are not brushing.

Colossal employers like big financial powerhouse firms and legal groups are investing in ergonomic equipment for their workers. So are big medical centers, where some of those on staff know even more about the long term health risks of using poorly designed furniture. Lots of smaller businesses are also looking at how to supply themselves with ergonomic equipment to avoid liability and help protect workers.
