Kinpo N03 11.6″ notebook packs VIA Nano, WiMAX

Taiwan’s Kinpo Electronics has introduced a new mini-laptop that stands out from the crowd a bit in a few areas. First, the Kinpo N03 (PDF link)has a VIA Nano processor. That’s not that unusual these days, especially on an 11.6 inch model with a 1366 x 768 pixel display. But the laptop also has integrated 3G and WiMAX support, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth.

The N03 can handle up to 2G of RAM and runs wither Windows XP or WIndows Home Basic. The laptop has a 4000mAh battery, 3 USB ports, a 2.5″ hard drive or a solid state disk, and an SD card reader. It weighs less than 2.9 pounds and measures 11.1″ x 7.8″ x 1.1″.

It looks like you can pick one up in China from Alibaba for $350, but I wouldn’t expect to see this laptop released globally at that price, (or with the Kinpo brand name still attached).

This is basically the VIA reference platform that was announced many months ago.

If VIA didn't put the Fn key to the left of the Ctrl key, I'd buy one in an instant.

The keycaps look to be the same size –
Just pop them and swap them on the keyboard and in the keymap file.

I am using Samsung NC20 with VIA Nano, XP, Ubuntu, multimedia and even audio transcoding. It works excellent and fast. No complaints. Waiting to see a bigger screen and keyboard with this processror.

I think that 1.9 pounds is a misprint and should be under 2.9 pounds. The PDF says under 1.3 kg, which is 2.86 pounds.

Thing is, Fn usually can't be keymapped away.

This is one of the reasons I can't buy a Thinkpad, or this guy. I could probably live with the glossy screen and tiny touchpad (I dream of a matte-screen Vaio P that gets 4.5hrs of battery life in the slim profile), but the Fn key is a killer. Yeah, really.
