HP Mini 5101 with 6 cell battery now available for $425

A few days ago HP started offering the opportunity to configure the HP Mini 5101 with Linux, high resolution screens, extended batteries, and other options. Unfortunately, the base price for the fully configurable netbook was $539, which is far higher than the $399 starting price for the pre-configured models of this netbook.

In other words, if you wanted a 6 cell battery, you’d have to pay $564, or $165 more than the base price of a version with a 4 cell battery. That’s kind of silly since HP describes the 6 cell battery as a $25 upgrade.

Well, now you can actually get an HP Mini 5101 with a 6 cell, 55WHr battery for just $425. All you have to do is choose the model that’s preconfigured with this battery (it’s labeled FM978UT)

HP claims this battery should run for about 9 hours, or twice as long as the standard 4 cell, 29WHr battery. Like the $399 model, the $425 version comes with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU, 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB, 7200RPM hard drive, 2MP webcam, Bluetooth 2.0, and 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi.

I bought mine from MacMall.com $425+$5 shipping! Way cheaper than HP shipping and no taxes.

As far as the RAM…odd…they do state in the fine print that even the 800 MHz DDR2 runs at 533MHz…so no advantage/disadvantage.

But if you do that, they drop the RAM speed?
