If you had to pick one thing that netbooks are known for, I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t point out their spectacular audio quality. The truth is, most netbooks have cheapy, tinny-sounding speakers. Things definitely pick up when you plug in headphones. But DTS Digital Entertainment plans to help Asus step up its game when it comes to netbook audio.

DTS has announced a partnership with Asus to bring its digital surround sound technology to ASUS motherboards, notebooks, and netbooks. Netbooks with DTS audio could begin showing up in 2010. The technology creates a virtual surround sound system using either two speakers or headphones.
