Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T 11.6 inch notebook gets groped

1810t

The Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T is due out in Europe within the next few weeks, where it will sell for around €499 ($716 US) and up. This laptop may look like your typical Acer netbook, but it sports an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, and instead of an Intel Atom or VIA Nano CPU, it packs a 1.4GHz Intel ULV processor and GMA 4500MHD graphics. It can also handle up to 4GB of RAM, comes with a 250GB hard drive, and HDMI out. The computer supports WiFi and Bluetooth, and has a 3G option.

As you’d probably guess from those specs, this computer ships with Windows Vista, not XP. I’m guessing if you purchase one in the next few months, it’ll qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7 when that operating system is released in October. But that’s just a guess. I’m also hoping that Acer will knock a few bucks off the US price, but I wouldn’t expect to pick this notebook up for under $600 anytime soon.

While the laptop is priced a bit higher than your average netbook, you should be able to get significantly better performance out of this machine when running CPU and memory-intensive applications. It’s still not exactly going to blow away a machine with a Core 2 Quad processor, but the Timeline 1810T should be able to handle HD graphics duties. The battery is supposedly good for up to 8 hours of run time.

A couple of web sites have publsihed new hands-on photos of the laptop recently, including ITC.ua, which spent some quality time with a blue model. PCHome got to cozy up with a red model, so fresh that it’s still covered in plastic in places. The close-up shots of the keyboard look pretty nice, and the rest of the laptop doesn’t look too shabby either.

700 bucks for a netbook like device is very expensive! The other acer timeline laptops are much cheaper, in fact i saw one on sale for 500 bucks this other day. A 13 inch acer time line is cheaper thian this and it has the same batt life with a bigger screen so you wouldnt have to squint so much. 13 inch laptops are also very portable too so i think it would be smarter to get the 13 inch one.

Is it just me, or does 1810T look like ID10T?

This is some of the worst laptop branding ever.

The 1810T is a X810-model in the old 751 clothes. Which is a plus becuase of the better keyboard of the 751 and a minus because theother X810T-models have a nicer metal cover. In Germany the 3810T sells for 568 €, only slightly more than the 1810T with only more RAM, a bigger Hard drive and of course more weight 1,6 instead of 1,3 Kg.

257209: Depends on what you want. The 3810T is quite a bit bigger; 37mm wider and 24mm deeper. And the 1810T has the same resolution screen so you only lose size, not pixels.

If you find the 3810T cheaper, I bet it's the one with slower SU2700 CPU and less RAM. As a true ultraportable, the 1810T is hard to beat for the price IMO.

Won't their pricing have to be lower now to compete with the dell inspiron 11z?
