The Gigabyte Booktop M1022 netbook is a netbook with a gimmick. Or maybe it’s a stand-out feature. Either way, this otherwise unremarkable netbook comes with a docking station that lets you stand the laptop on its side, plug in a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and other peripherals, and use it as a desktop.

As a netbook, the M1022 is pretty much standard fare with a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and 6 cell battery. It also has an Expresscard slot, which is a rarity. But the most special thing about the netbook is its dock, which features a VGA port, 3 USB slots, ethernet and headphone jacks.

SlashGear has published one of the first reviews I’ve seen of this netbook. In a nutshell, the netbook is decent enough, and the dock works as advertised. It’s just a little strange, since the dock doesn’t have any ports that you can’t find on the netbook itself. Still, it does let you setup a workstation with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, external hard drive, or other peripherals on your desktop, then connect them all to your netbook simply by dropping it in the dock.

The dock is reportedly sturdy enough to hold the computer without wobbling. The dock and netbook connect through a proprietary port. The hole that the netbook fits into is a bit loose, which means it takes a little practice to drop the netbook into the dock just right.
