Why not try a free office suite from SSuite Office. They have a whole range that is free for download. Does not require Java or .NET.

Web page:

http://www.ssuitesoft.com/index.htm

I tried the netbook version of ThinkFree when only the trial version was availlable and it worked great out of the box. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of language options: both on the interface and concerning the language pack. I wonder if the new purchasable version includes more options than the previous.

I love Thinkfree Office, and on a typical netbook (I have the MSI Wind U100 with 2GB RAM), it opens word and excel documents much faster than any other Office Suite such as MS Office, Openoffice, NeoOffice, and Apple iWork. It also uses far less CPU resources on the network than all of the above. Last but not least, it handles all of the new MS Office XML file formats very nicely, even though you can't save it back as docx or xlsx.

I have been using the free ThinkOffice Desktop Manager version that comes with the 1GB free online storage account, and would have loved to purchase the Netbook version. However, it is never clear to me what is the value proposition of the Netbook and Mobile version of the product. What am I getting for $25 that I'm not already getting for free with the ThinkOffice Desktop Manager? Maybe someone from ThinkOffice can answer this.

Also, maybe a Features comparision chart on their website would be nice too.

You get integration with their web-based storage and editing tools.
But as for the desktop application, I think it's going to be a matter
of taste.
