Two of Samsung’s latest mini-laptops are heading to the US. First, the Samsung N310, which is a 10 inch netbook with a colorful, ruggedized lid will be available in the US starting July 15th for about $479. Laptop magazine reports that Samsung is giving the netbook a new name for the US Market, the Samsung Go.

The company also plans to bring the recently announced Samsung N510 laptop to the US later this year. The details aren’t worked out yet, but the N510, which has an 11.6 inch display and the NVIDIA ION chipset will probably be available sometime this fall.

It also has an 8800mAh battery which should be good for over 10 hours.

I'm sorry, how much for the N310? I understand the casing is cool, but specification wise there is no reason to choose this over the Toshiba NB205, which is almost $100 less.

  • djSyndrome

The Toshiba gets 9 hours, so it's still asking nearly a C-note for what amounts to an extra hour or so of battery life. Also, the Toshiba's battery is 5800 mAh – 60 percent of the Samsung's. Is there something else on board (3G? 7200rpm HD?) that causes it to be so power hungry?

Okay, history lesson time. When the Samsung NC10 started to be sold in N. America it was $479 was well.

Yes, this is a different time and there are now many nice 10″ models for sale for $100 less now. But if the NC10 can be used as a guide, the price of the N310 should drop by $50 to $70 after three months.

Also, do not disregard that while netbooks are cool, THIS netbook will have people walk up to you in coffee shops & airports. This machine without a doubt has 'je ne sais quoi'. If you want a decent machine buy the NC10 or N110, but if you want something with a uniquely attractive quality you won't get it from anything else.

cool, another laptop with a mirror screen. I'll have a look at one next time I want to do my make-up.

That's nice, but I'd rather sink the $80 into more functionality or keep it in my wallet. Not everyone buys Netbooks to be fashion accessories.

Well, except for Vaio P owners ;)
