Samsung introduces low power LCD display for netbooks

Pixel Qi isn’t the only company looking for ways to reduce the amount of power consumed by netbook screens. Samsung has introduced a new 10.1 inch LCD screen that users half the power of a standard LCD. It also manages to have a 1366 x 768 pixel display resolution, which puts it a cut above most of the netbook screens currently on the market.

Akihabara News says that the new Samsung display is readable both indoors and out, but there’s no info on exactly what that means yet, and the Samsung press release page is sadly way out of date (the last update regarding LCD displays is from November, 2008).

This is exciting news! A problem with e-ink devices is that many devices use screens produced by one single company. I hope many different manufacturers get on the e-paper mode LCD train fast! I think an E-reader, be it e-ink or e-paper LCD, will be this years no 1 christmas gift.
