The Qualcomm Snapdragon platform ist starting to find its way into netbooks smartbooks like the the new Asus Eee PC on display at Computex. But while Qualcomm’s first generation Snapdragon chipset clocks in at 1GHz and offers excellent power management features, the company is already working on its second generation QSD8650A Snapdragon chipset which will be 30% faster while using 30% less energy.

In other words, by 2010 we could see smartbooks with 1.3GHz ARM-based processors that use even less energy than the Snapdragon chips available today. Like the current chipset, the new version will feature 2D and 3D graphics acceleration, integrated GPS< HD video transcoding, Bluetooth, WiFi, and 3G mobile broadband connectivity.
