NVIDIA working on next-gen ION platform

The NVIDIA ION platform bundles an Intel Atom processor with an NVIDIA GPU to provide higher performance graphics on a low power chipset. The current chips use a 55nm process, but Fudzilla reports that by the end of the year, NVIDIA will move to a 40nm process. Those ION 2 chips should be available around the 4th quarter of 2009, or about the same time Intel releases its next generation dual core Atom “Pineview” processor.

So what are the advantages of moving to a smaller process? Basically the smaller chips tend to offer better performance than current chips while using the same or less power.
