Netbook revolution causes headache for a web based accounting biz

There’s been a lot of specualation over the last year or two about how low cost, mini-laptops or “netbooks” would affect the computer industry. But one unintended casualty of the surge in netbook popularity was the owner of the netbooks.com web domain.

Once upon a time, “netbooks” may have seemed like a reasonable name for a company that offers online accounting services. Get it? Net… books. But that’s not what most people think of when they hear the word today. So the company behind netbooks.com has changed the name to WorkingPoint.

The service allows small business owners to track income and expenses, and it has almost nothing to do with mini-laptops. Right now, when you type netbooks.com into your browser, you’ll be redirected to the WorkingPoint web site. I wouldn’t be surprised if the company eventually decides to sell the domain, which could be worth a bit of cash today.

Incidentally, Intel owns the netbook.com domain.
