HP Pavilion dv2 getting a dual core CPU boost

HP is bringing out two new CPU upgrade options for its Pavilion dv2 laptop. The dv2 has a 12 inch display and weighs less than 4 pounds, making it a bit bigger and heavier than most netbooks. But the AMD Neo processor and ATI Radeon graphics give it significantly better performance when it comes to handling video games and watching high definition movies. Unfortunately, the CPU is pretty sluggish.

But now it looks lke HP will begin offering the notebook with a choice of a dual core Congo CPU or an Athlon X2 dual core processor. Both of these chips will likely boost performance for average, non-graphics related tasks. You’ll also probably have a better experience with Flash video, which tends to rely on the CPU, not the GPU. No word on what the new processors will do to battery life.

The low-power Neo processor only afforded 2 hrs of battery life if I recall. Are they going down to 1.5 hrs next?

It was poor battery life and high price that prevented this model from becoming a hit with consumers. Not performance. If the orignal version sold for less money and got 5-6 hrs of battery life (like atom-powered netbooks), it would have done well.

I hope they solve the battery life issue on these new versions…

Sorry TrackSmart, I have to disagree with you. The only reason I didn't plop down over $600 is because I refused to pay all that cash and have a crappy internet experience. I want to stream Hulu perfectly. That's all that stopped me from getting the dv2.

It sounds like these updates are right up my alley. My only decision now is if I want the Congo or Athlon X2 CPU.

I'm also happy that they've changed to a white keyboard. That'll make fingerprints a little less obvious.

I am gonna agree with Bob on this one. I have to decided which processor upgrade I would prefer as well. I guess I will be waiting until I see the prices. This system was amazing besides the processor and maybe we could get a 9 cell battery upgrade.

11.6″ please, the 1366×768 resolution is far more useful for non-office tasks.
