This machine, minus the optical drive, and the dimensions and battery life of the EeePC 1000HE is what I'm looking for.
The lid on the 1000HE has wide enough a bezel that it could take a slighly larger screen without increasing the size of the notebook, and more important than the size of the screen is the resolution, so even something like an 11" screen with 1366*768 would be very helpful, because there is just a bunch of apps that won't run properly if the height isn't at least 768

I go to Akihabara's PC distrct on a weekly basis so I will check it out next time while I'm there.
Though one thing that will keep me away from this netbook is that it does not offer EN keyboard option.
Since I cannot get used to JP keyboard, I highly doubt that I will grab this model.

tdp of 8w vs 2.5w for the n270... do either of these actually need fans? the ~11w chipsets, ok, but if you can't passively cool a <10w cpu...

Seems like a nice small laptop. No mention of battery size. It has to be relatively thirsty power wise. If you are going over the 4 lb mark anyway you might as well add a good size battery.
