Buffalo 16GB thumb drive might be the smallest ever

Looking for a USB thumb drive to add a bit of storage to your netbook, but don’t want that sticks out two or three inches from your netbook and sort of looks like it’s asking to fall out or break off when you accidentally bump it? Buffalo’s latest USB flash drive holds is just 5mm thick.

Seriously, I’ve seen SD card that protrude further from netbooks than this 16GB flash drive.

It looks like the Buffalo 16G thumb key will be available in late June (so any day now) for ¥12,980 or about $135. It’s not exactly the cheapest 16GB flash drive around, but it’s very likely the smallest.

A 16GB SDHC can be had for $20. Granted, SDHCs are slower but they're also more versatile, since they offer the flexibility of working with other devices, such as cameras and MP3 devices.

I like the 7mm one. Still you can buy 16GB regular size flash drives for $30 at microcenter or even less on ebay. Over $120 is a huge price to pay for small size.

Cool toy but with SDXC just around the corner it should struggle to find a market.

Heh, I was eying this for my in-dash head unit that has a USB input since it reads flash drives. This wouldn't stick way out and interfere with shifting into 5th gear rather than for my 2133 I'm using right now.

That's great for “permanent” storage space in a laptop. The only downside is that you'll probably need needle-nose pliers to remove the thing! Unless that cap also serves as a “puller”…
