Sure, you’ve already seen the Asus Eee PC 1101HA on paper, and in video. But after showing off the company’s first 11.6 inch Eee PC for a few days, Asus has finally gotten around to making an official announcement about the laptop.

So here’s the skinny. The laptop is part of the new Asus “Seashell” family, which basically means it has the same basic shape, keyboard, and touchpad as the Eee PC 1008HA and 1005HA. But the new model has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a battery which Asus claims is good for up to 11 hours on a single charge. The laptop has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a 1.3MB webcam, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive.

Unlike its smaller Seashell cousins though, which have Intel Atom N280 processors the Eee PC 1101HA has a 1.3GHz Intel Atom Z520 CPU.

What kills this model is the slower processor and inferior keyboard compared to the 1008HA/1005HA. What good is a bigger display and higher resolution if the processor struggles to play 720P?

Should've put ION in this one, Asus.

All I want is dimensions! Is that so hard, Asus?

    Pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase?

F-ing small right shift key! Which moron at Asus decided to bring that back?

    *Engineering Dept Meeting at ASUS*

Engineer A: “What's the most annoying netbook flaw? Can we slip that into the design somehow?”

Engineer B: “I know, let's bring back sub-two-hour battery life!”

Engineer A: “That's a little too braze. We're going for something that appears innocuous at first, but will still annoy you everyday of your life.”

Engineer B: “Got it! What if we take our largest netbook, and put the smallest right shift key on it!”

Engineer A: “That's F-ing brilliant! It's stupid and absurd, yet subtle at the same time. I love it! Time to call up our notebook suppliers and thell them about the proposed feature…”

    Thanks, Brad!

For all the other lazy Americans who don't feel like doing the conversion, that's 11.25” x 7.71” x 0.85” – 1.4”. Very similar to the dimensions for the 1005HA. I wonder about the weight?

This confirms that my next purchase will be a 1008HA. I was only holding out for the dimensions on this one. It's definitely svelte for an 11.6″ high-res screen, but still about an inch too wide to fit into my designer leather purse. [=^D

    Pointless. Pointless. Pointless.

I was thinking I might buy an 11″ thin and light netbook later this year/early next, but all of them are being hobbled with the 1.3GHz Z520 CPU. Look, I'm not that nuts about the Z530 at 1.6GHz given the 1GB of RAM limit. But the 1.3GHz model is a non-starter. Sorry.

And topping that off with a horrible keyboard? Who are they kidding? Didn't we fix this ages ago?

European prices are generally given with all taxes, while US prices are without.

Any news on the “GO” version? I really don't want to go back to living without instant 3G connectivity. It's either an HP 2150 or the 110x GO

    quite good little thing buuuuuuuut…

video capturing (playing xbox 360 in it) requires at least 1.4 ghz processor and this only has 1.3. NOOOO!!!!!!

better than the ones with smaller screans tho cos some website pages dont fit onto them and u have to scroll to the side, how suckish is that?!
