11.6 inch Acer Aspire one 751 coming to America

  • Email

Sure, there’s a rumor going around that Acer will soon phase out the recently introduced 11.6 inch Aspire One 751 to make room for a similarly sized, but higher priced Timeline notebook. But it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen right away, at least not in the US. Because Laptop magazine has received confirmation from Acer that the company will be bringing the Aspire One 751 to the US within the next few weeks.

The laptop will be available at Amazon, Target, Staples, Radio Shack, Walmart, J&R, and several other retailers. The Aspire One 751 has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z520 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. It typically ships with either a 3 cell or 6 cell battery.

It's already in the US. It's been at my local Wal-Mart for the past 3 week or so. They've got it in Red and Blue. I was wondering why it's not online anywhere yet.

  • TrackSmart

Yes, but can they sell them yet? If so, where is your local Walmart?

I don't know. I'm assuming so since they have one that is on and set up in the display, and underneath that they have four or five of them in the box with the price tag on it. Looks like it's for sale to me.

what industry cabal decided that all the 11.6″ devices get the shitty cpus?

I called a couple of nearby Walmarts.

The item is “on recall”, which means they are not allowed to sell it and it may need to be shipped back to the manufacturer. Maybe this is Acer's way of keeping their launch date protected? Or maybe the first batch has something wrong with them?

Anyway, I'll still have to wait until the official release dates it seems…

Intel won't allow the N270 processors on machines with screens over 10.2″. That means they need to use the Z-series processors.

Intel charges a lot of money (relatively speaking) for the faster Z530 processor. I'm *guessing* manufacturers use the Z520 processor to keep to make the final netbook pricepoint palatable. It's a poor compromise. Without the artificial Intel/Microsoft restrictions, we'd have better netbooks.

Costco (St. Charles, Illinois) has a stack on them on sale with a few empty slots (it's on about 50 cards slide into slots)– though only the 3-cell version ($349) with windows XP, I believe. I would be very interested in the 6-cell version
