Chinese electronics makers getting in on the netbook action

china You know a PC category is hot when companies that aren’t known for making computer begin pumping them out. We’ve already seen a few electronics makers like Archos and Coby dip a toe into the netbook game. Now several Chinese electronics companies have announced plans to sell mini-laptops.

DigiTimes reports that LCD monitor maker AOC, Motherboard vendor Colorful, and electronics company Malata all have netbooks that are either already available in China or which are in the works.

I bought a10.2″ netbook made by Bolton Technology China on eBay, running a Via C7-M at 1.6 Gb, 1Gb RAM and with 160Gb hard drive. Cost, £199. It is well made, runs Win XP at present although I intend to add Linux in dual-boot, and is very satisfactory. Built-in wi-fi and a Li-ion battery which runs for 3.5 to 4 hours depending on my usage makes it complete. I expect these products to shake up the market and reduce prices all round in the near future.
