Asus Eee PC S101 is not built for extended batteries

s101-extended-batteryThe Asus Eee PC S101 is thin, light, and overall a very sleek looking machine. But in order to keep the size and weight down, Asus threw in a relatively small battery that sits flush with the base of the computer. And that makes it hard to throw in an extended battery without making the computer look absolutely ridiculous.

Case in point: One Japanese user picked up a third party 9800mAh battery and found that it makes the computer lopsided, as you can see in the picture above. Battery maker Mugen has a battery that works a little better because it has some feet that extend beyond the back of the battery, letting the laptop rest comfortably on a table. But it also makes one of the  thinnest and lightest machines in the Eee PC lineup look like one of the thickest.

Battery life is one of the major selling point of a netbook for me. There has to be a balance somewhere between size and battery life.
