Asus Eee PC 1008HA dissected, examined

1008ha-dissected2

Sure, we already saw pictures of the Asus Eee PC 1008HA with its top off courtesy of the FCC last week. But it’s always so much more satisfying when a hardware hacker rips apart an actual production unit to see what’s on the inside. And that’s just what the folks at Netbook Italia did.

The Eee PC 1008HA is the thinnest netbook with a 10 inch display in the Eee PC family. But Asus still makes room for a 2.5″ hard drive, which means it should be relatively easy to upgrade the HDD or replace it with an SSD as long as you’re cool with taking the machine apart and voiding your warranty. It’s also not that difficult to replace or upgrade the RAM. The computer can reportedly handle up to 2GB of memory.

Looks kind of painful actually. Pry up the keyboard, okay. Then undo one batch of screws on the back. Then another. Then it looks like you have to pull away the battery to get at the CPU mini-board so you can get at the back of it where the RAM slot is. Then put it all back together again, retaping everything as you go…

I watched the video, witch was made by an Indian – could obviously hear that coz of the accent. It was on this site actually – Anyways, this guy(Sahil) shows everything you need to do…

I did it, ordered a Kingston 2gb module @ 667Mhz(PC5300 – I chose this series cos I wanted to be certain that it worked – allthough Sahil went with a 800Mhz module…) – And I must say, it was EZ ! Just be careful – Many small parts that can brake – I broke to small white parts, looked like a notch from the casing or something. Though everything sits just fine, and im extremly happy with my EEE !

Tried even to “Hazard & iDeneb” this sh1t…But that was not so ez as this…

Anyone got OSX working on this baby?
